Since it first opened in the early 1990's, Hotel Villa Ombak has been setting the standard for resort accommodation on Gili Terawangan. Back in those days, while the rest of the island was slowly converting thatched bungalows to brick and working their way up to showers instead of mandi buckets, Ombak was quick to recognize that some people just need the comforts of modern living when they go on holidays.
Air conditioning, hot water showers, room service, direct dial telephones, satellite television and beachfront swimming pools are all standards that international travellers expect and that is what Villa Ombak set out to provide. The hotel has come a long way since then and now comprises 110 quality guest rooms set in tropical gardens with a large sparkling pool on the beachfront.
All guest rooms feature individually controlled air conditioning, in-room safe, mini bar and refrigerator, coffee and tea making facilities, satellite TV, international telephone and have large semi-open air bathrooms with hot water. The resort boasts a full range of guest facilities including a large 3-level freshwater swimming pool with a whirlpool and swim-up pool bar. Wining and dining options include The Blue Beach Bar (on the beach) and island Pool Bar (poolside), the side walk cafe, seahorse wine and dine (a lovely beachfront restaurant), and warung bule a casual dining spot overlooking the beach.
Facilities within the resort include room service, Wifi Internet, laundry service, ATM and credit card facilities, money exchange, postal, fax and email services, water sports, speedboat transfers and tour services. There's also a shopping arcade, with a 24-hour Clinic on site, and the Ombak Dive Academy. The adjoining Roemah Spa combines Eastern and Western skills, offering professional beauty and body treatments, including facials and massages. This is not a hotel that rests on its laurels facilities and services are continually being upgraded and attention to detail is evident throughout their resort. And villa ombak is gaining international recognition.
For three years in a row, the resort was nominated in the World Luxury Hotel Awards (WLHA) and in 2010, won the coveted prize as a testimony to dedication, enthusiasm and leadership in the high demand luxury hotel industry. Villa Ombak has also been nominated for a number of other travel industry awards, including being a finalist in The World Travel Awards hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the " Travel industry's equivalent to the Oscar's".
